Country like it was.
Moving backwards just as fast as we can.

Buttercup is a 5-piece honky tonk catastrophe out of Richmond Va., dedicated to keeping the guts, grit and honesty of classic country ALIVE.

Buttercup celebrates mid-century drink-cheat-and-cry standards and hillbilly obscurities of the 40s 50s and 60s.  The originals sound like the classics, just a little more grizzled and world weary.

HEARSAY

George Bullard,  Detroit News: A cure for that fake country music flowing out of Nashville.

Richmond.com: Buttercup is hotter than a brace of stolen pistols and twice as deadly.

Work Magazine: Bouffants, boots and bedlam-belting ballads that flow with drink, desire and disaster… Buttercup brings one of the best, not-to-be-missed or reckoned-with shows the region has to offer.

Bluesbunny.com: Country music like they used to do before Nashville overdosed it with saccharine…  Torch singing country style in good old-fashioned black and white... a reverential tribute to the glory days of country music but it still manages to be fresh and interesting.

Virginia Living Magazine: Buttercup makes country noir – think George Jones in a David Lynch movie – and the husky-twangy vocals exude femme-fatale intrigue. The slow-moving ' River of Whiskey' alone is worth the price of the disc – and a shot.

Jan Raczycki, CDBaby: In this world of comparisons, think Patsy Cline collaborating with Tom Waits.
